LASIK, an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is one of the most well-known refractive surgeries to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

The surgery involves using a femtosecond laser to create a thin flap in the outer layer of the cornea, which is then reshaped with an excimer laser to correct your vision. After the procedure, the flap is repositioned to complete the surgery.

What are the benefits of LASIK?

  • Wide treatment parameters - The procedure is able to correct myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), astigmatism for small and large prescriptions.
  • Fast - The flap is created in 5 seconds and reshaping the cornea takes less than 20 seconds. The entire surgery takes less than 10 minutes to perform.
  • Quick Recovery - You can resume your daily routine within a few days of the surgery with minimal downtime.
  • Safe - Proven long term results with over 25 years of experience.

How is LASIK performed?

A femtosecond laser is used to create a flap in the cornea.

The corneal flap is lifted and an excimer laser will sculpt the underlying corneal tissue to correct the refractive error.

After the laser procedure, the flap is returned to its original position without the use of stitches.

What is the recovery process after LASIK?

After LASIK, it is important to follow certain guidelines to ensure proper healing and optimal vision. It is advised to avoid rubbing the eyes and wear protective eyewear while sleeping to prevent accidental rubbing or dislocation of the corneal flap. Additionally, eyedrops as prescribed for the first week post-operatively to prevent infection and to keep the eyes lubricated. The eyes may feel dry, irritated, or uncomfortable for the first few weeks. Most patients are able to return to work and other regular activities within a few days of surgery. It is also crucial to attend all follow-up appointments with your eye doctor to monitor your progress and ensure that your eyes are healing properly. With proper care and attention, you can expect to enjoy clear, crisp vision after LASIK.
